History

In January of 1982, the development of a community-based treatment system for those affected by alcohol and drug use began. By February, 1983, services were being offered Monday to Friday out of York Central Hospital.

In September 1984, Addiction Services for York Region and the Ministry of Health outlined the objectives of this service.

  • To conduct detailed assessments of clients who have problems with drug and alcohol abuse, and refer them to the appropriate treatment.
  • To assist clients to carry out treatment plans and provide ongoing support.
  • To provide information and assistance to the families of substance abusers.

Since then, ASYR has continued to provide support, assistance and respect to those struggling with their use of drugs, alcohol and gambling.
