Community Withdrawal Management Services

We are a level 1 and 2 “withdrawal” service (detox). We work in partnership with Royal Victoria Hospital’s Addiction Service Residential Withdrawal Management Service, Barrie, Ontario. Community Withdrawal Management Services (CWMS) assists people who want to stop using substances to plan their withdrawal. Our counsellors complete an assessment and create a plan to assist people to safely manage their withdrawal symptoms from alcohol/drugs, which is followed by supportive counselling. Some people may be eligible to go through this experience in the comfort and safety of their own home or any other “homelike” setting in the presence of a support person.

			ADMISSION CRITERIA l..Must voluntarily enter program l..Must be willing to stop all harmful substances l..Must be age 16 or older HOW WE CAN HELP l..Provide confidential, client centered community withdrawal management services that are readily accessible and culturally sensitive to the needs of our community. l..Assess substance use and withdrawal needs l..Refer to appropriate services and level of care ( residential, medical) l..Provide information about withdrawal to the support person l..Monitor acute withdrawal symptoms l..Provide supportive counselling as appropriate l..Provide 24-hour Telephone Support during acute withdrawal l..Facilitate involvement of family physician l..Minimize the risk of withdrawal complications l..Provide clients with support after the withdrawal experience
